Every performance at Shuswap Theatre is an opportunity to transport an audience, spark an emotion, or tell a story in a whole new way. Lighting plays a huge role in creating that magic — and we’re ready to take it further!
Bright Futures is our multi-stage project to modernize Shuswap Theatre’s lighting system. Our first phase will replace 12 traditional tungsten Fresnel lighting fixtures with modern LED RGBAL Fresnel lights. This is an important first step toward a more energy-efficient, versatile lighting system that will expand our creative possibilities for years to come.
Why Bright Futures?
More colour. More creativity.
Traditional tungsten fixtures produce a warm, inviting light. To introduce other colours, technicians use coloured filters, called gels, placed in front of the lights. Changing colours can require replacing those filters or using different fixtures.
LED lights offer a whole new level of flexibility. They can produce thousands of colour combinations, with colours adjusted instantly from the lighting booth. This gives our creative team more control over the look and feel of a production, without needing a separate fixture for every colour.
Bring every story to life.
Lighting helps establish a mood, create an atmosphere, and guide an audience’s attention. With LED technology, our creative team can blend colours gradually, create subtle shifts in tone, and introduce striking colour changes and special effects. From quiet, intimate moments to bold, dramatic scenes, we’ll have more ways to support the stories we tell.
A cooler, more comfortable theatre.
Traditional tungsten fixtures generate considerable heat, which can make the theatre uncomfortable for performers and audiences, especially during warmer months. LED fixtures produce much less heat, helping us create a more comfortable environment for everyone enjoying a performance.
Less energy. More flexibility.
LED lights use significantly less electricity than traditional tungsten fixtures, helping reduce the energy needed to light our productions. Their ability to change colour electronically also gives our technicians greater flexibility and reduces setup time, allowing more time to focus on creating great theatre.
Building for the future, one phase at a time.
Bright Futures is not a one-time equipment replacement. It’s a longer-term investment in the future of Shuswap Theatre. This first phase will introduce 12 LED Fresnel fixtures, with further phases planned to replace additional lighting instruments over time.
Our lighting control board is already equipped to accommodate LED fixtures, allowing us to put this technology to work. Modernizing our equipment will also help address the growing challenge of finding replacement parts for our older fixtures and keep Shuswap Theatre better equipped to collaborate with other theatre groups using contemporary lighting technology.

Our goal for Phase 1 is to raise $34,805 to replace our 12 existing tungsten Fresnel fixtures with LED alternatives. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve already raised $18,700 — more than halfway to our goal, with $16,105 still to raise.
Every contribution brings us closer to completing this first phase and moving toward our larger vision: a theatre with greater creative flexibility, lower energy consumption, and an even better experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
