Here is the 2012 O-Zone Information and Reservation package for the festival to be held May 5 – 12 hosted by Asparagus Community Theatre in Armstrong. Featuring 7 plays in 7 days, 2 workshops, daily adjudication sessions and nightly Greenroom celebrations. The Armstrong contact person for questions about the festival is Beth Bennett at 250 546 9913. For more information and registration forms click here.

We strongly urge Shuswap Theatre members to take in as much of the festival as they can manage. Aside from being a great opportunity to see some good plays, there is no better way to increase the depth and knowledge of our company than by seeing as many plays as possible. If you are able to take in the Coffee Critiques held each morning after, this is a very rich opportunity to learn from some of the best people in the business. You will be a better actor, director, lighting designer or anything else as a result of these experiences. On top of all that is just the fun of rubbing shoulders with others who love theatre as much as you do. Much of the good stuff comes in conversations over coffee, lunch or a drink in the Green Room. With Armstrong being only a half hour away, you will save money on accommodation, etc.

Please note that though the deadline for registration packages is April 20th, individual tickets for the plays and other events will be available as long as they last. Buy a package and save.

The dust hasn’t settled before another Shuswap Theatre Mainstage Production is in rehearsal. After a very successful run of ‘Leading Ladies’, Shuswap Theatre is working on another comedy. This final show of an very entertaining 35th season is sure to relate to any man or woman who has found it difficult to communicate with the opposite sex. Jill Rodale, played by Elaine Holmes – seen in ‘Renovation; The Musical’, and ‘Heartbreak House’, is trying to figure out what is best for her and her family when she finds that her husband is having a fling. Her husband Mal, played by Rich Daniels of EZ Rock 91.5 radio fame, is a man in a mess. He can’t communicate with anyone: his wife, his son, his employees, his girl friend and his customers. The play by Alan Ayckbourn has to have a gimmick. That’s what this playwright is noted for – you might remember ‘Taking Steps‘, which took place on three different stories, but all the stair climbing took place on one level. This time the set is the home of the Rodales, which switches to Mal’s furniture store. But since one switch is not enough, when Jill and Mal have frustratingly come to the end or their respective ropes they switch personas. It’s amazing how a woman in her husband’s body can solve most of their problems and how a man in a his wife’s body can finally relate to his son, played by Arik Kreipe; learn a great deal from his daughter, Chrissie, played by Tracy Moore and finally give his son-in law, played by J.P. Lord, just what he needs!

Director James Bowlby and producer, Teresa McKerral guarantee you a night to remember. The show runs April 27 to May 5. Preview is April 26. Tickets available at Wearabouts on Alexander Street in Salmon Arm, after April 13 or at the door one hour prior to each show.
